Dad's Night

At Jakob's preschool they host a Dad's Night for all the Dad's to spend an hour at preschool. Tonight Jakob and his Daddy went to the preschool "Jungle". Everything they did tonight had to do with jungle animals. The parents were asked to bring in an item of food and each item was to be a part of the jungle animals. There were ants (raisins), cupcakes (elephant footprints) licorice (vines for the monkeys), bananas (monkey arms and legs), butterfly wings (chips), and many other fun ideas.

When the parents first arrived there was a snake hunt with the lights turned out and the flashlights on. Jakob and George found 5! There was time to make a chain snake and jungle hats were also part of the fun.

What a great opportunity for the kids and their dads.

Curious George

Reading at bedtime has been important to George and I since Jakob was "tiny". It used to be Mommy or Daddy picked the book and now Jakob definitely has a say in the matter. Lately he has chosen a Curious George book he got as a gift from my Uncle. The stories are so long we only do half each night, but Jakob picks this book at least 3 times a week. Some weeks it is the choice every night.

The most interesting part of this choice is that George didn't like the Curious George character because it was a reoccurring tease when he was a kid. He has put that aside now and joyfully reads the monkey stories night after night.

Weekend Project

Well, actually a 2 weekend project. Last weekend we painted our last room before we move again. (I promise George) I really wanted our bedroom to have some personality and I had purchased a new comforter a few months ago, so the next step is painting. Right? The first weekend we did all the walls (with Jakob's help) in about 3 hours. Then after we had cleaned up AND put everything away we (okay, maybe I) decided we needed to paint the slanted walls up to the ceiling for a better look. George agreed once we painted it.

This weekend we did it! Jakob helped while on the ladder. He felt so proud standing on that ladder and painting. We finished in no time.

Kindergarten

Next Fall Jakob will start Kindergarten. This next step, as many of you know, was made more difficult by the Prince William School District making all their Kindergartens full-day this year. George and I would have preferred a half-day.

So, I asked around about the private schools in the area and found several possibilities for Jakob. Our favorite school is Prince of Peace Luthern Church. They have a program that fits our family so well. I feel like it was made for us. A friend we met at gymnastics the first few months we were in Virginia sends her three children here and she had glowing praise for this program. The biggest problem we had with this school is that it is in Springfeild, VA. We will have to take I-95 to get there and it will be during rush hour. We have decided to carpool with our friends and we think it will make the journey easier.

Jakob loves the school and thinks the playground is cool. He will have music twice a week, art once a week and PE once a week. I can't believe he's going to Kindergarten.
